ok i posted this on annother fourm and i've only really been told to scrap it and start over...

"hello ya'll i've been working on updating (sort of) the computers in my house and i've run into a strange problem...
sys specs: (sorry not at home so no screenshots)
    MB- ECS KA1-MVP , bios ver 1.1e
    ram- 2x geil 512mb pc4000 (tested good up to 524mhz 2.5-4-3-7 or 425mhz 2-3-3-6) , 2x crucial 512mb pc4200 (tested good up to 570mhz 3-3-4-8 or 416mhz 2-2-3-6)
    speed/timings- under opty 144, 457mhz 2.5-3-3-7 2.85v (bios set to 2.9v)(don't ask me but it uses a 12 div on a 9x multi when set at 166 instead of a 11)
    under opty 170, 425mhz 2.5-3-3-7 2.52v
cpu- (old) opteron 144 cabne 0537, (new) opteron 170 CCBWE 0609FPAW (ok poor stepping but i got the chip for $75.00 NIB)
    cooling- XIGMATEK HDT-SD964 with 2 fans over a 168w 40mm tec...
    speed/temps- opty 144 stock 1.9ghz (200x9,ht 1000mhz 1.3v) idle -15, 100%load 18c...cloced to 2.745ghz (305x9,ht at 915mhz 1.425v) idle 7c, 100% load (45min test) 34c
    opty 170 stock 2.0ghz (200x10, ht 1000mhz 1.29v) idle -12c,-8c, 100% load 24c,22c clocked 2.550ghz (255x10,ht tested at 765 and 1020mhz 1.32v) idle -8c,-2c 100% load 36c,34c
    vid- 2x sapphire hd2600 pro
    ***PSU- 2x 650w chiefmax (tested output on both well within spec) will supply 62A at +12v, 70A at +5v 70A, at +3.3v, 2.2A at -5v, 2.5A at -12v...
    voltages with computer running (in oblivion as a load) +12 at 11.92v +5 at 4.98v -5v at 4.8v -12v at 11.6v +3.3v at 3.28v
OS- win xp x32 home sp3 (no more updates to download)
drivers- ati 8.10 vid/cipset (off ati site) , realtek 2.07 audio (off guru3d)

    ok now my problem....
under the opty 144 i could set any of the voltages in bios and they would set to or at least close to the listed value...
I installed the opty 170 and now my vdimm stays at 2.52v no matter the setting in bios and the vcore stays at stock the hammer Vid only gets me to 1.32v on any setting above 1.375v below that setting it will drop the voltage some but below 1.25 the cpu will not work...
    so whats up with that?
is there some way to boost the voltages under the opty 170? should i try a older bios? or a mod / bios from another board with the same chipset? or even a physical mobo mod? (I have plenty of electronics experiance and can / have repaired modified boards before)...

this has got me stumped ATM.

I've tried some diffrent bios's, 1.1d for ka1mvp 1.1c and d for rd480a939 the bios for sapphire rd480 and rd480adv two from msi's rd480 chipset boards and no luck any idea where i'd look for a voltmod for the board?

outher info prolly available on request just ask me..."

    ***on the psu's:

"yea I know chiefmax has a bad rep. and with the old ones it was well earned they were wimpy, i've been using these for about 6 months total only been using them as a computer psu for the last 2-3...

the psu's are only in there waiting on a 800w RPS from a server (3x 800w modules) the amp numbers are tested using a restive dummy load indvidualy (They won't produce the max #'s all at the same time but these will output about 560w each, total combined #'s) they are the new V2 "650w" ones not the old ones there are large heatsinks in them and the 12v stage uses two switchers instead of one (one of these I upgraded the transistors in). This model uses a 120mm fan instead of the old pair of 60mm ones. also I've replaced the output caps with Mutch larger ones (6x 6800uf @20v for the 12v line) The tiroid's used in them are more of a limiting factor than the silicon they only used 18AWG on it...I may build a bigger one for them after the RPS shows up....so all in all they aren't exactly original chiefmax psu's anymore.... I used to use these as a bench test power unit for repairing audio equipment...

And I had my roommate hook up his PC power & cooling silencer 750w (quad cf type)... It made absoulty no difference in the ability to adjust the voltages for the ram and cpu...
with the opteron 170 the vdimm was still staying at 2.52v the vcore still stays at 1.32v...."

so at this point I'm trying to find out why it's only doing this on the opteron 170 and if there is a way to fix it properly.... or failing that for some info on what IC's I need to modify / replace to perform a volt mod for the vcore and vdimm?

    thank ya'll for your time...

Laptop problems after upgraded RAM and switch to SSD

It's hard to say, probably not, because it's mostly hardware issue. I don't think your BIOS has the options to adjust voltage and other stuff.

here is whats new for me with pr1.3 so far...

my n900s battery is lasting 40% longer on the stock kernel after pr1.3 its really noticable i also tried with titans kernel but the battery drain was worse than in 1.2 with that, i cant adjust voltages though my phone does not like it.
