The laptop project seems to have fizzled for the moment due to lack of display devices (good old D-sub 15-pin), though I did get the C840 to boot on the HDD it previously said was no good. However, I also have an old Inspiron 546S (with 15-pin D-sub and HDMI output), that I'd forgotten about. The SFF setup with optical drive and two, maybe three SATA bays is near-perfect for an HTPC.
