Mickey: Asus monitor, DP 120Hz audible crackle and pop and screen fuzz.

Hello, not new to forum but signed up for advice.

I just got an Asus ProArt ultrawide.

Turned it on attached to my GPU via displayport cable, all seemed fine, then I went into 120Hz mode, and the screen was suddenly fuzzing like an old CRT TV overlayed over the image, after a minute or so of this performance I started to hear a lot of crackling and popping from the back of the monitor, on the side of the displayport cable.
