Ok, i've been wanting to move over to watercooling for years now, and i thought a good place to start might be an watercooling kit, so i got a aquagate viva which was on offer.
I installed it all, still a long process even for a kit - Radiator placement is difficult but i ended up with it in a 5 1/2 inch bay (nothing below or above).
My temps have now gone up 5C even with the case open!!!! Everything is working fine, alarm doesn't sound, and the block is placed firmly with penty of heatsink greese.
    My system is a E2180@3.33Ghz - 1.4v - Asus PK5-VM motherboard - Coolermaster case with 2 case fans.
My previous cooler was a coolermaster hyper zx and temps were 35-54 (idle-max load) (with a couple of spikes to 58max now and then.
My temps are now 40C idle 61C load with lots of spikes all the way up to 75C! - Now my comp crashes after about 5mins of stress testing, when before it was always stable.
I read the reviews and the majority said it was a good kit with temp good temp reductions.
needless to say i am very dissapointed, anyone know where i'm going wrong?

Have not ever watercooled, but you didn't use to much thermal paste, did you?
Also, make sure those mating surfaces are clean and making good contact.

What did you use as fluid? Is it circulating? And is there adequate air flow over the radiator?

Are there any kinks in the lines?

I used a good squirt of thermal paste, but i'm sure that would have been spread thin by the pressure? (i tightned it till my m/b was bending then loosened it a little). There are no kinks, i made double sure, testing with the case open and closed. The radiator has 2 coolermaster fans that came with it (get quite noisy too), it's in a 5 1/2in bay as i can't find anywhere else to put it. there is a free space above and below the radiator. Think i should try just takig the radiator out of the case alltogether? only problem is my daughter plays around the house and i don;t want her loosing her fingers in it.

If you were to have watercooling for years, you should of at least know that all these "kits" are easily beaten by top air coolers. The only way to succeed with water cooling is to go custom, a triple ratiator at least, a good pump and a decent water block. Otherwise ... stay with air.

Take it outside the case and try it. To much paste is bad, thin layer shoud be all you need if the surfaces are flat and mate together.

Those Viva's are terrible anyway. For half the price a S1283 will probably also half the temps *Laugh

I had a bigwater kit, cost me £70. I then sold it and bought an £11 Freezer - it dropped close to 10 degrees of my load temperatures. Kits are pretty much useless unless you pay for a top end one / arent overclocking.

Money is better spent on decent air or a own build H20 loop. Probably only a bit more expensive if you build it yourself anyway.

just my 2 cents *Big Grin Watercooling - Waste of time and money!!?? :D

I've not gone with watercooling b4, just been wanting too since people were taking radiators from the scrap yard for their computers. So it won't work well with my cpu?
I don;t want to throw it in the trash just yet, i only got it a couple of hours ago, would it work well on my hd4850? I currently have a stock zelman cooler (came with the card) when i tried to replace it with a coolermaster viva zx pro the temps went up 10C so i put the stock back on.
Coolermaster don't always make that good cooling soloutions do they?

[Update] ok, i'll try removing most of the thrmal paste, just leave a thin film. i'll update and let you know how it goes.

Ok, just opened my case and realized that i need to remove everything again (MB/Connectors/.... Do you think too much paste could really affect my temps that much, currently at 63C max load (9C over aircooling) Should i just take it out and put it on my 4850?

Make sure you bleed all the air out of the unit

It's a self contained unit, it says not to open for the first 6 months

Listen, re applying the thermal paste may help temperatures, however consider what your asking this unit to do. Cool a Intel Processor on 1.4V+ or cool a kiln of a 4850. Now going on basic watercooling knowledge, and past experience, i can tell you that anything under a 24cm radiator will NOT be able to efficiently cool either a Intel Processor or a graphics card. I purchased an XSPC kit, cost me £80, the website reckoned it was purposely designed for quad and dual cores. I installed it, and my temps where practically the same as my freezer pro. Bear in mind the latter only cost £11. As the computer continued to run, the single 12cm rad could not keep up with expelling the heat from the system, and eventually the temperature went into the 60's on idle, because it could not cool the water well enough.

Im just trying to get across that the Viva's are really designed for older chips and older graphics cards, and will NOT be able to cool anything efficiently that is on todays market.

Try it on your 4850 if it will fit,its not a great cpu kit.As for paste, you need a blob the size of a grain of rice.

I started out with one of these-http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?...ck+Ice+Pro+Dual+Radiator+120m+(Oem+Brown+box) it was the cheapest dual rad i could find,it cooled my cpu and 4850 really well.I have added one of these-http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=617681&Product=Aqua-Computer+XT+120+Radiator+(31101) to my loop now,my load temps(most important) are great now.The only descent all in one kit for first timers is the swiftech compact 220.-->PC Systems & Components | Overclockers UK or this if you need cheaper-->PC Systems & Components | Overclockers UK
